A Journey of Learning Chen Style Sword
What a ride this has been — by the end of our last intermediate class (just before that historic blizzard), we proudly finished Iteration 1 of the Chen Style Sword. Months of steady practice turned into real progress: we started with one or two moves per session and ended up completing a full section each class. The transformation has been joyful to watch.
Students surprised themselves in the best ways. One person lost over 50 pounds during the process and credits Tai Chi with helping drop at least 10 pounds. Movements that felt impossible at first — like 歇步 Cross‑legged Stance — are now part of everyone’s toolkit. The jumps and thrusts that once seemed awkward are flowing with surprising grace and coordination.
Every class was full of laughter, determination, and those little “aha” moments. Students kept telling me how much they loved the routine and enjoyed the learning journey. That energy makes teaching a blast.
I’m excited to begin Iteration 2 in our upcoming classes — more refinement, more fun, and more moments where you surprise yourself. See you on the floor!
